e-Stamp Paper, Stamp Duty and Registration in Punjab
Punjab collects stamp duty through e-stamp certificates issued on the SHCIL (Stock Holding Corporation of India) system, the same system used in Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Each certificate carries a unique number and can be checked online, so a fake or reused stamp is easy to spot.

Does a rent agreement in Punjab need to be registered?

Documents Required for a Rent Agreement in Punjab
All you need is basic identity details for everyone and the property address. Aadhaar is the one that matters most, because the signature runs on it.
Landlord: Aadhaar number, address, email, Aadhaar-linked mobile. PAN if annual rent crosses ₹1 lakh and the tenant claims HRA.
Tenant: Aadhaar number, permanent address, email, mobile.
Two witnesses: Name, address and an Aadhaar-linked mobile for the OTP.
Property: Full address with house number, sector or mohalla, city and PIN; monthly rent, deposit, start date and term.
If someone signs for the landlord: A power of attorney or authority letter.
